The Support for Candidates page has been reorganized and updated with three new candidate resources. Please feel free to share these new resources with your candidates. 

 

• National Board Certification: Overview and Quick Start Guide – This guide is for educators interested in learning more about National Board Certification.

 

• National Board Certification: Candidate Resource – This guide for candidates includes the key certification documents, planning guides and graphic organizers for each component, resources for Component 1, webinar recordings and information on the free Canvas course.

 

• Understanding Scores and Feedback Statements – This document offers supplemental resources for candidates who need support working with their scores and feedback statements.

 

NBPTS Professional Learning / Mentor Resources (NEW)

 

• Serve the Work: Become a Professional Learning Facilitator – Ben Lathrop wrote this mini book for NBCTs as a resource he wished he had when starting to support candidates. It’s advice and links to resources from NBCTs across the country. You’ll find it linked on the candidate support community page in “Resources & Materials”.

 

• What Book Facilitation Guides – Thanks to the incredible work of our NT3 partners and Lisa Clarke, NBPTS now has guides posted for anyone wanting to lead professional learning focused on the Five Core Propositions. It’s available on accomplishedteacher.org in English and Spanish. You’ll also find them linked on the candidate support community page in “Resources & Materials”.

NBPTS Professional Learning Facilitator (PLF) Materials (October 2017)

The goal of the modules is to provide a consistent baseline of skills and accurate and current information for program leaders to utilize with facilitators who will be supporting National Board candidates. Access to the PLF Materials requires acceptance of the Terms of Use. 

Note: Users are encouraged to exercise their best judgment in modifying materials to fit the audience and time limitations for sessions. Graphics and text specific to the National Board Certification process should not be modified. Modifications to activities may be made in the directions to participants, and additional activities to support the learning of content may be added as needed.

Module 1: Introduction to National Board Professional Learning
This module provides facilitators with materials that aid in the understanding of the fundamentals of system design utilizing the Accomplished Teaching Body of Knowledge. In addition to understanding system design, the module also provides potential for flexibility, scaffolding possibilities, as well descriptions for what it means to be an effective facilitator of the certification process.

Module 2: Working with Adult Learners
This module provides facilitators with materials for honoring the adult learner, communicating effectively with candidate. This module was created in partnership with the National Board Resource Center at Stanford.

Module 3: Foundations
This module provides an in-depth collection of activities focused on the Accomplished Teaching Body of Knowledge (Five Core Propositions, certificate standards, and the Architecture of Accomplished Teaching). Foundations Supplement: This supplement provides additional activities for candidates and potential candidates. This module was created in partnership with the National Education Association (NEA).

Module 4: Ethical Candidate Facilitation
This module provides facilitators with materials for understanding the importance of providing ethical candidate support and certification denial or revocation.

Module 5: Scoring
This module provides facilitators with materials for understanding and communicating about the scoring process for the National Board Certification assessments.

Module 6: Providing Feedback
This module presents guidance on providing effective and reflective feedback and questions for teachers before and during National Board Certification. This module was created in partnership with the National Board Resource Center at Stanford.

Professional Learning Facilitation Program Design Materials
The planning guides provide an overview of the big picture regarding all the factors to consider and plan for when designing a system for embedding National Board.
